the first day back from Christmas break
I went for my usual walk
I was shocked to find the entire cemetery
covered in flowers
I had never seen ANYTHING like this, ever
or since
I was overwhelmed by the beauty of it
I realized they were camellias
I do not remember ever seeing camellias before
but here they were
in the morning mist
amidst the monuments and the Spanish moss
the bright flowers and the ethereal
an unexpected synergy
a gift to me in my life
that I cherish
and although it is not the same,
I was happy to see that the Camellias
bloom here in LA
and always remind me of this moment
